A
Comprehensive plans for the development of farm land in the Kowloon district are being drafted by the Government General of Hongkong. Present plans include a 10-year afforestation scheme, envisaging the creation of a spacious forestry zone, as well as a gigantic 5-year plan for the creation of a 600 chobu vegetable field, making Hongkong and its surrounding districts self-sufficient in fruits and vegetables. 5-year plan for producing fodder sufficient to feed the live-stock required in Hongkong district, and a 5-year scheme for expanding the existing 800 chobu orchard zone in Kowloon to 1,400 chobu, with the assistance of the Taiwan Development Company are also under consideration. The conversion of the existing swampy zone into irrigated rice fields is included in the present farm land development plans. (Domei, 7 November, 1942.)
